In the fall of 2019, our son started his freshman season of college football. Having watched and coached our children in sports for many years, we were thrilled for his journey to continue at the college level. We were excited to join the team’s families and friends at the Saturday football tailgates and purchased the standard gear of a canopy, grill, tables for food, coolers, and speakers. This typical set up was repeated up and down the parking lot. What we did not plan for was the unpredictable Ohio weather where, at three of the five home games, we were pelted with rain, high winds, and snow. The poor weather made setting up and tearing down that much more miserable.

As we packed up the truck at the end of the last home game that season, and we got into the vehicle soaked from head to toe, we looked at each other and said never again. We knew there had to be a better way. This sparked the idea of creating a custom tailgate trailer. We listed our desires and decided on three key elements to improve our tailgate experience: protection from the weather, a private restroom, and ease of set-up that would ensure we didn’t require packing and un-packing our personal vehicles.

As we entered 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic arrived. Although we did not know what would be in store for the football season, we decided to put our new tailgate trailer plan into action. We ordered an empty car-hauler and got to work on what became our 2020 COVID project.

We unveiled our trailer at the 2021 Spring game. The tailgate experience that we brought to our football family was like none other. The response we received and the excitement the trailer generated over the last 3 years has been overwhelming to say the least. After receiving many inquiries, we decided to create a business that would allow others to enjoy the same tailgate experience that we have and, in 2023, we launched Flyers Tailgate Trailers LLC.
